Photographic Magic

“From an early age I can remember my Dad vanishing to the loft, a place I wasn’t allowed to visit. After hours and sometimes days he would come down from the loft clutching a few black and white pictures and have a gratified smile on his face.

One day I was invited up to the loft on the condition that I didn’t leave for a while. I remember there was a strange smell in the air and the room was lit by a red light. There were all kinds of trays, equipment and discarded pictures struned over the counters.

After a while of paper dunking from tray to tray and the use of a strange apparatus which shone a light on to the paper, I could see, as if by magic, a picture appear!

It was many years later that my passion for creating imagery of my own would take hold. I originally began my career as a digital artist in 2000 after spending most of my twenties travelling, including 8 years in Hong Kong.

With the new technologies available to me today, my preferred tools are a digital SLR and a medium format film camera and of course the ubiquitous Photoshop.”

Its nice to leave your mark! Its been said “a picture is worth a thousand words” but sometimes its nice just to be able to leave a comment. With this in mind Ive added a brand spanking new guestbook for visitors to the site to leave their comments or just say hello.

So why not head over to: http://www.paulcooklin.com/guestbook/ and test it out.

New Canvas & Print Supplier

Over the last few months Ive been trying to source new suppliers to try and keep the costs down for canvas and Giclee printing. At long last Im happy to announce partnership with a new supplier. Their mediums which include museum grade canvas and Giclee fine art prints (matte, glossy and lustre) are not only excellent but cost effective to you the buyer.

Here’s the blurb about the canvas:

Canvas prints are created with a commercial grade professional printer, which features a Micro Piezo DX3™ print head and uses 7-color, pigment-based UltraChrome™ Ink. In order to produce the highest quality product possible, images are printed on Premier Art™ Water Resistant canvas that has been created especially for enlarged portrait and fine art printing. This surface features a true canvas texture with a fine finish. Canvas prints have a Giclee Satin Matte coating. The UltraChrome™ ink is archival and it is oil based. It is also resin coated for longevity. The coating is water based. It has a UV protectant and sealant to help make it water-resistant. The inks and the coating have UV protection. Canvas Prints are stretched mounted on a sturdy wood frame.

Acrylic is still a popular medium which looks fantastic and I’ll be listing it as a medium again shortly, although pricing for this discerning medium is still quite costly.
